I'm reading Lover Avenged and so far, so good. The only reason I started this series is because a friend of mine knows I like vampire stories, and I thought I'd give it a chance since I was caught up with the True Blood series at the time.I do LOVE the first & third in the series (I eventually got over my trouble-with-romance-books) - but I really enjoyed that this book is more than a romance story. Okay, so I'm not a romance reader. So all you non-romance readers out there, read these books. It kept me involved, and all caught up in this different world. So what if it's more "main-stream" - it's good to keep the brain in check. My order of loves: Zsadist, Phury, V. You'll become just as obsessed as everyone else. Happy Reading.
A drug addicted virgin wrought with pain from his past needs love too. Rhev, Xhex, and the newly transitioned all have interesting stories and I can't wait for the next book. Phury's story is so raw and emotional, and his love story is not as full of happiness and horniness as others. I also really enjoyed the other stories presented. I think that about describes it all. Sorry so short.
I absolutely loved this book. I also look forward to Lover Avenged. This installment wasn't just about Phury, Cormia and the Chosen, but instead was portioned off with crucial scenes that will have effects on future books with John, Blay, Quinn, Xhex, Tohr, Rhevenge, Lash, the Glymera and others.
I'll be honest, Phury is not my favorite of the Brothers; he's way to self-destructive with a martyr complex to match. The reviews for this book seem to be brutal with a bulk of them asking where the romance is or Phury's HEA; but to be frank, this book was more in the dark urban fantasy genre than any of the previous BDB books. JR Ward has done an outstanding job at weaving together many intricate stories that progressed nicely together.
It also appears that the Lessers have a sleeper cell in the vampire community and when activated is programmed for maximum annihilation. However, he is not unredeemable. If you are a diehard BDB fan, this book is a must read.
I highly recommend this book and series to dark urban fantasy readers. I also recommend:Desire Unchained: A Demonica Novel (The Demonica Series)Ravenous: The Dark ForgottenSins & ShadowsMagic Strikes (Kate Daniels, Book 3)In the Blood
I am hoping that Rev's story is more convicning and has depth to the main characters but like some of the reviews I have read it has been written in the same style as LE. How on earth can Phury fall in love with Cormia if they didn't interact with each other.
There were too many other stories happening at the same time that I felt Phury & Cormina relationship just didn't get enough time to develop had no substance. As a fan of the previous books I found Phury's story lacking depth.
I loved the first 3 books more focus was given to the main characters. The romance was unconvincing and virtually non exisitant.
So them declaring their undying love was just not convincing in the least. I just felt there was no chemistry between the two of them.
I do hope Ward goes back to her original style of the first three books which I could not put down.
I can't say enough about that trio. The whole angle with the Lessors kept me guessing as to who was the "son". The romantic storyline between him and Cormia just didn't measure up for me. The guy sure deserves some kind of happy ending.
*Spoliers*I'm giving a 4 star rating only because of the secondary storylines going on. As much as L-O-V-E this series I was left a little deflated by Phury's story. My heart aches for John and all that he has been through. I really hope he can overcome his demons. First I thought it was Phury himself or Qhuinn.
I hope good things start happening for him soon. Anyway, 4 stars for secondary storylines and maybe 2 for Phury's story in itself. It was totally unbelievable and felt hollow in a way. Last but not least there is Tohr. When the truth was revealed my mouth dropped.
One hell of a twist. Then there is John and his two best buds. Another heartbreaker there. Just started reading Rehvs book so I really hope things pick up with that book.
